Englishman Jack Sinclair’s sizzling summer continued this weekend when he took down the €25K Super High Roller at the German Poker Championships in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, seeing off Tony G heads-up and walking off with €250,000 and the title.

The 26-year old Londoner was an almost complete unknown on the live tournament circuit when he made the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event last month, eventually finishing 8th for $1.2million – turning his online skills into ‘real-life’ excellence after being persuaded to give it a go by his much better-known flatmates Philip Gruissem and Anton Morgenstern.

At the Kings Casino this week he had already landed a 4th place finish and €30K in the €5K buy-in High Roller version, so when he made the final table again in the bigger event, he didn’t seem out of place despite his famous opposition.

The 28 entries meant that only the top 3 would share the €665,000 up for grabs, and with Antanas ‘Tony G’ Guoga, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospelier and Steffen Sontheimer all still in the mix with Sinclair come Sunday evening, some big names would be missing out on the money.

Despite being short-stacked for a while, Sinclair rapidly re-built his stack – and it was Tony G who saw off his illustrious counterparts, his pocket kings taking out ‘ElkY’ on the money bubble and then catching a good flop and some luck to dismiss Sontheimer, leaving him heads-up with the newcomer to the ‘big boys’ games.

With the Lithuanian politician, close friends with Kings Casino owner Leon Tsoukernik, holding a chip lead, the pair decided on a deal – Tony G taking the lion’s share of the pot, €300,000 against Sinclair’s €240,000 – which left €10k and the trophy to play for, Sinclair eventually taking down the title when he toppled pocket jacks with his own KJ.

So Sinclair’s summer heater continues – what’s next for the young Englishman?
