It’s human nature that most people are most comfortable in settings where they are not a minority… women ARE the minority in live games. This is going to naturally be a deterrent for other women to join in Dmoongirl;

Women’s activity in poker in the past has been minimal or not even there, so it was very noticeable when a woman would come to the poker table. However, in recent times the representation of women in poker increased in relation to the opposite sex although the majority of poker players are still men. There is no dispute that women can play equally as good as men and today many women show off their playing poker skills with equal success as other players at the table. Anyone that underestimates a female poker player is giving her an advantage.

Always look at a player as a player without any thought about differences between the sexes! For sure, women can be good as men in poker!

Women are becoming more and more interested in playing poker every day and poker tournaments and tables are getting richer by the presence of beautiful poker ladies. In many aspects, poker mimics society and just like in the society, women have been making a significant breakthrough at the poker tables.

If a woman is beautiful and a good poker player, others will sometimes focus on her beauty and often believe that this somehow takes away from her playing abilities. It’s very interesting that woman’s opponents clearly are not aware of the play they are capable of and they definitely don’t realize how good skill level of each woman could be. A large number of excellent players is women who successfully play in some of the biggest tournaments in the world and increasing number of women takes up a career as professional poker players.

Some poker experts think that female poker players are less impulsive and more patient. Patience in poker is one of the most important things and female players tend to be more interested in long-term growth. They are usually more guided by a plan and more likely to stick with the plan long term and this patience usually pays off in the long run.

Aggression is crucial to poker players. Generally, successful poker players tend to have an aggressive approach to the game, but most successful female players often adopt a hyper-aggressive approach that seems to work perfectly for them. This was particularly true when women first started making their breakthrough in poker as male players tend to believe that women could only play aggressively when they held huge hands.

MAIN REASONS FOR SMALL PERCENTAGE OF WOMEN IN POKER

Many female amateurs often feel discouraged when facing a prospect of playing men. For some, it can even cause them to play way worse than they are capable of. Apart from this natural discomfort, women are often turned away by cultural taboos and prejudices connected with the women at the gambling tables – as it is perceived by the general public. Poker is often not a very pleasant game – at the very foundation of poker there is deceit and a strong desire to beat your opponent. Thus, given its cutthroat nature, it is only normal that men significantly outnumber women in poker.

This is especially true of live poker environment and the main reason why many more female players are found grinding online tables. They feel safer there, less exposed and more protected in the safety of their homes, not having to deal with often arrogant and sexist behavior they encounter at the tables.

Experiences differ, of course, and some probably had it way worse than the others, but in certain countries women at poker tables are still observed with strong disapproval. Add to that the types of characters the game attracts (other than pro players) and deciding for a career as professional poker player becomes a very daring decision for upcoming female players.

I think the percentage of people in poker who are actively sexist or exclusionary when it comes to women or minority groups, is very small. I think reasoned conversation about how to make poker less about gender and more about players is possible. I’m most happy with a gender neutral game where people are just poker players and everyone is clearly welcome at the table and they don’t feel marginalized or disregarded. A strong industry requires a healthy influx of new players and if women were playing in the same numbers as men, imagine what that would do for poker. Doubling the field size, bringing lots of new players into the game, bigger money up top for winners, more viewing public for the TV shows, an increase in revenue for the companies smart enough not to chase those players away by making it clear through words or marketing choices that they don’t care about the female market.
