Flying halfway round the world for a relaxing holiday with your best friends needn’t mean not keeping your fans and followers in the loop, and for Phil Hellmuth at least, nor does a social media ban!
The irony of his post was apparently lost on the 15-times WSOP champ, who was enjoying his summer break in Italy, although poker is never far from his mind, as this pre-holiday tweet showed…
Big Phil, as most poker fans will know very well, is an almost constant presence on social media, with 99,000 followers on Instagram and 290,000 on Twitter.
The hugely popular legend of the poker felt shares everything from memories and blasts from the past to upcoming and current tournaments and matches, with a healthy dose of his ambassador and promotional work thrown in, and a more than fair share of fan pics and charity meets sprinkled on top for good measure.
It seems Italy was supposed to be a break from all that extra-curricular social media, English poker queen Liv Boeree the first to question his latest tweet…
…while one of his Twitter followers had a cunning plan:
“Just block them temporarily and tweet on! They'll never know till it's too late.”
Hellmuth certainly deserves his break, having had a busy year demolishing all-comers in High Stakes Duel, currently 7-0 with clean-sweep 3-0 wins against Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu, and a first round win against Fox sports host, Nick Wright.
Next up after the foreign holiday, however, is the match-up the fans have been waiting for – a $100k per head battle with Tom Dwan in round 3 of HighStakes Duel III.
So far Phil has won $750,000 in the SNG-style heads-up format, more than enough to pay for him and all his besties to enjoy their Italian trip in first-class all the way. His supposed silent mode is unlikely to last beyond his first day back on US soil, however, and his fans wouldn’t have it any other way!
