Poker Gossip & Opinion

The Doug Polk Music Video

I can't seem to get the song out of my head.

No matter how hard I try, "What's up guys, Doug Polk here" keeps invading my mind and thoughts. It won't leave my brain despite my attempts to listen to and watch a bunch of other YouTube music videos.

Doug Polk released a new video - a music video, no less - and it has all the makings of a huge hit. We're talking number one... with a bullet.

Catchy and Entertaining

The Upswing Poker co-founder took a break from his usual YouTube fare of analyzing poker hands and the like to tap into his creative side. The result is a catchy tune that wears on you, to the point where you likely can't stop singing it after listening.

Every good song has a catchy hook that is repeated over and over to draw listeners in. Think "put a ring on it," by Beyonce, "Beat It" by Michael Jackson, or even "YMCA" by the Village People.

Polk used that style - ad nauseam, in fact - injecting the phrase "What's up guys, Doug Polk here," while making light of several poker players such as Jason Mercier and Daniel Negreanu as the tune plays out. A number of other phrases were repeated continuously for effect, "a bad reg" the most humorous of the bunch.

On That Note

But on that note, and having said that, watch the video and decide for yourself about Polk's possible talent as a music mixer. It's only a little over two minutes long, Doug's shortest YouTube production yet, which may be the best news of all.

If this poker thing doesn't pan out, perhaps Doug has found a new calling. Move over Busta Rhymes, Lady Gaga, and Jay-Z. Doug Polk here.
