A friendship that formed at a poker table and led to becoming roommates turned into a federal case when poker pro Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Frank Gu had a falling out over financial matters totaling $90,000.
That was the amount that Timoshenko claimed was owed to him by Gu, the latter accused of botching $50K in stock investments, in arrears $16K in rent payments, failing to safeguard $10K in cash while Yevgeniy was away at a poker tournament, and another $1,160 for courtside seats at an LA Lakers game.
The missing $10,000 was apparently pilfered by a guest who was allowed by Gu to stay over in their New York City apartment while Yevgeniy traveled the poker circuit.
Timoshenko, who has cashed for $7.7 million in live poker tournaments including a 2014 Aussie Millions title for $1,791,248 and a championship at the 2009 Five Star World Poker Classic for another $2,149,960, sued his former roomie in March 2017.
A late September court date at the USDC for the Southern District of New York resulted in a settlement between the poker players, details of which have yet to be released. Also unknown is whether the pair will ever again decide to room together and share living expenses.
