In the press release from earlier today, PokerStars announced that they have signed their very first members of the Team Pro from India and Japan. Although it is not directly mentioned in the release, this is probably an action aimed at securing a place at the rapidly growing Asian poker market.

Kristy Thompson, Head of Pro & Celebrity Management at PokerStars explained that signing of these pros should go a long way in helping promote poker in these countries where the game is only starting to really grow. The two signed players are respected in the poker community and their passion for the game should help the poker grow more popular.

Japanese player Kosei Ichinose is the best known as the first person from that country to reach the Supernova Elite status. He started playing back in 2006 and never looked back, posting great results in different online series like SCOOP, WCOOP and Sunday Majors.

I’m proud to be associated with PokerStars as I have achieved so much in the game by playing on the site. I now look forward to helping spread the popularity of poker in Asia and representing the brand at major international tournaments like the upcoming Aussie Millions later this month. Kosei Ichinose;

Aditya Agarwal hails from India, but he spent better part of his adult life in the US to study. It did not take long for him to fall in love with poker. By the time he graduate from college, he was already playing more or less full time, posting deep runs in WSOP and EPT events, and making final tables of events in India.

His online resume is even more impressive, as he has more than $4 million in cashes on PokerStars.

I’ve been playing at PokerStars since 2004, so this is a dream come true for me. As a poker ambassador I want to help promote the game in India, and inspire more players to play and enjoy the sport. Aditya Agarwal;

Both players should make their sponsored debuts at the Aussie Millions Main Event that runs from January 25 – February 1.
