Last week GGPoker stepped up and hosted a special fund raising event for the family of well-known poker reporter Drea Renee. Earlier this month Renee’s 35-year-old sister Audrey Gray passed away from complications of Covid-19, leaving the family with medical bills and the cost of a funeral, on top of four children to take care of.

Upon hearing the news Erik Seidel posted a tweet asking his followers for help where they’re able to.

“This is such a tragedy, if you know Drea you know she lights up every room she’s in with positive energy. She’s one of the most special people I know.”
A GoFundMe page was set up, aiming to collect $25,000 to help with the bills and taking care of Gray’s four children. Eventually it peaked at $35,364 before being closed down.

Beat the Pros Event

The tournament had a $50 buy-in and a $20,000 guarantee, with $12.50 from each of the 536 entries going towards the donation. In a nice touch, high-stakes crusher Anatoly Filatov won the tournament and donated his entire first place prize of $3,312.49 to the good cause.

It’s only a month since the poker community got together to help out Layne Flack’s daughter after he passed away unexpectedly. It’s great to see everyone come together to help those who really need it during a bad time.
