The internet may well be your first choice for all that is poker-related; news, play, lessons, strategy, etc - but books on the game will always be one of my favorite learning tools, and there is much to be said for the old-school approach to the game.
The announcement that the worldâs most consistently-winning online poker pro Chris Moorman is to publish a follow-up to his highly-successful Moorman's Book of Poker, therefore, is something which I am excited about!
Moorman has enlisted the help of fellow big-name pros such as Fedor âCrownupGuyâ Holz, Liv Boeree and even Daniel Negreanu to pick apart his game and hands, while promising to share all the ups-and-downs of his decade long fight on the green felt and its virtual counterpart.
The 31-year old Essex legend let his fans know all about it when he tweetedâŚ.
The secret is out! I'm currently working on my second book all about my life in and outside of⌠https://t.co/XCCI19t7D3

Although his publishers â D&B Poker - have given next July as the release date for the much-anticipated insight into his winning ways, it will at least give us all time to finally get through all those books currently gathering dust on the shelves!

When I started playing the game a few years back I found myself engrossed in the analysis of Dan Harringtonâs series for the tournament player, and when I switched to cash games I just had to have his books focusing on that too.
Add in Sklanskyâs seminal work âThe Theory of Poker', Doyle BrunsonâsâSuper Systemâ and some excellent light reading in Big Deal and Bigger Deal by English writer Anthony Holden and I was all set!
Naturally I havenât quite reached the heights of Moorman, who can boast of over $17million in lifetime earnings live and online, plus the remarkable feat of being named 'Best Online Player' five years in a row at the British Poker Awards, but much of what attracted me to the game was covered in those books.
D&B poker â who currently boast almost 1 in 5 of the Amazon best-selling poker books available - have also just released an excellent book by Mike Sexton, the famous face of the World Poker Tour.
Co-presenter Vince Patten says it all in the foreword:
"'Lifeâs a Gamble' tells the story of Mikeâs life and how âactionâ has been a part of his life all his life. It also lets you in on the key roles he played in the development of online poker with PartyPoker, which he helped grow to the number-one site in the world, and teleÂvised poker, with the WPT. But to me, the highlights of the book are the countless gambling adventures that he shares with the readers. These stories, involving some of the most legendary figures in poker history, are fun to read and extremely entertaining. Once you start the book, itâs hard to put down. Youâll keep readÂing, wondering, and asking for more. And when you think his stories canât get more fantastic, they do. He tops every story with a better one!â
So, why not check out the printed word for inspiration, information and explanations of how the worldâs best play and live poker? And remember, e-books and audio versions can help ease that pain of âancient technologyâ!
