The coronavirus lockdown might have caused chaos to the live poker world this year but that hasn’t stopped a women’s poker organisation from making themselves useful.

The Poker League of Nations is the biggest women’s poker organization in the world and rather than sitting on their laurels they have jumped into action to help out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

No Time to Rest

Usually, the women are preoccupied with attracting more women to the great game of poker, but for now the group is giving out time, money, and basic life supplies to those in need around Las Vegas.

With the shutdown of all of Nevada’s casinos there are thousands of workers struggling to make ends meet. Just think of how many dealers have been laid off.

The American tipping culture is essential for these people to make enough money to survive. Many of these workers are now spending their days worrying about their next meal and rent payment. It’s a terrible situation.

The organisation’s founder Lena Evans has worked with her members to raise funds to assist those in need with many donations coming from local businesses such as pizza joints giving away free food.

Jacqueline Britton, another PLON founding member, has been donating from her clothing business as prizes for online freerolls which local players play.

“As an Ambassador for PLON, I always want to set a good example for leadership and service. During this time, I’m donating prizes and spending my free time contributing to the Las Vegas community. I’m grateful for my continued health, and friends and family, and the always generous poker community.”

The poker community as a group of gamblers doesn’t always receive the best press. Hopefully this kind of endeavour can show us in a good light for a change.
