WSOP Bracelet Winner Jon Henneghan Charged Over January 6, 2021 Capitol Riot

Jon Henneghan, a WSOP gold bracelet winner, has been charged over taking part in the Capitol building invasion that took place on January 6, 2021. The 57-year-old was part of a pro-Donald Trump mob that took over the building in protest at Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential election.

Not to Be Confused with…

We should mention that Jon Henneghan is not to be confused with legendary player John Hennigan, a six-time WSOP bracelet winner and inductee into the Poker Hall of Fame.

Henneghan’s girlfriend, Carol Kicinski, was also arrested with him after the FBI presented conclusive evidence that the pair was involved in the effort to prevent Congress from ratifying Joe Biden’s victory.

Almost 800 people have been arrested for participating in the riots which resulted in the deaths of five people. Many identified after sifting through an unthinkable amount of video footage and phone location data.

The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Room turned out to be instrumental in helping the authorities identify Henneghan. Footage from the Pinktober Poker Open was presented to US District Court Judge Robin Meriweather showing him playing in a seniors event five months ago, matching him to camera footage from the Capitol building and various security cameras in the D.C area.

The FBI were initially led to Henneghan by phone GPS data provided by Google and Kicinski was traced through her connection to him and her own GPS data. All of this was more than enough to quickly lead the FBI to its targets.

Little is known about Jon Henneghan except that he won his first and only WSOP bracelet back in 2005, defeating legends Barry Greenstein and Freddie Deeb at the final table. This result appears to have been his first ever live tournament cash, which is amazing to say the least, but it doesn’t tell the whole story.

From a total of $658,350 in live tournament earnings $611,015 was from that first score. Henneghan also proudly declared his employment status upon his arrest as a professional poker player but his average buy-in looks to be no more than around $150.

Did he just get lucky and is trying to keep his reputation going off of that one result?
