On a day which saw a ton of action and massive swings, the biggest surprise is just how little the field has been whittled down! The expected final 2 tables at the end of play was nowhere near being reached – instead 36 players will return for day 5, with Sweden’s Peter Eichhardt finishing the day top of the heap with over 4 million chips.

Although the bumper €1,420,500 top prize is still far from being decided, it wasn’t through lack of effort on the players’ part. 110 hopefuls had started day 4 and from the go it was carnage, with Patrick Caveriviere heading for the rails on the first hand of the day.

Despite players being evicted along the way (among them Ryan Riess in 83rd spot, Patrik Antonius in 71st and Mike McDonald in 43rd) as often as not the head of the pack would suddenly find themselves hammered by unexpected reverses - before picking themselves up, dusting off and re-joining the fray to reverse the roles.

An example of this was when Jasper Wetemans K♣ K♠found itself up against Mikhail Petrov’s A♦ K♦ . Instead of Petrov hitting the rails, he hit the flop instead with 7 8♦ 2♦and when the turn brought theJ♦(and the river the 7♦just to rub it in) they simply swapped chip stacks. And so it went on, and on, until midnight!

Expect Day 5 to be just as hard-fought – the average stack is still over 35BB deep and only a handful of the 36 remaining will be desperate for cards when they shuffle up at 12 noon. Stay tuned for our update here on PokerTube!
