London proved to be a happy-hunting ground for Gerret Van Lancker, taking down the Unibet Open title and £71,950 ahead of 418 other runners from all across Europe – all for the princely entry fee of €1!

It was a sweet taste of success for the Belgian pro, who came so close to taking down his first title at last year’s Unibet Malta Open when he busted out in 3rd, and his well-deserved victory saw the pro more than double his previous tournament earnings.

Not that he had it all his own way at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino (known widely as the Vic to poker players) as the continued rise of the Unibet brand saw a host of pros vying for the £377,100 (almost $½million) prizepool.

Knocking out last year’s winner David Shallow early on did wonders for Van Lancker’s confidence and fans of the site and players could follow the action with a slick Unibet Open webcast, hole cards, commentary, the lot!

The final hand of the event saw Van Lancker’s 6-1 chip lead induce a loose all-in from his opponent, and after tanking for a few minutes the Belgian called, his J/10 dominating the Slovenian’s J/5. And that was that! Govedic took down a healthy £45,060 for his efforts, while Van Lancker celebrated with his wife and baby daughter.
