Tournament poker is generally regarded as a young man's game due to the long days of play and the sharp mind needed to remain focused, but don't tell that to 84-year-old Morris Dadoun.

The Toronto grandfather jumped out to a quick start of Day 1A at the 2017 PokerStars Championship Main Event in the Bahamas, at one point leading the entire field. Dadoun finished the 1st day of action near the top of the pack, earning mad respect from a number of pros along the way.

Dadoun won his PSC Main Event seat at a Toronto charity tournament last month, not even realizing that the first place prize was a package deal that included a trip to the Bahamas. After winning the charity tournament, he was approached and offered an opportunity to sell his ticket, but the octogenarian would have none of it.

Living the Dream

Dadoun told CBCNews Toronto that playing in a high stakes poker tournament was a dream come true and that he wouldn't miss it for the world. He has been playing in a weekly home game for 40 years, which typically is not the ideal breeding ground before moving on to a $5,000 buy-in Main Event against the world's best players.

However, Dadoun was apparently unfazed. He eliminated a handful of players including Spanish golf pro Sergio Garcia, all the while vying for pots against the likes of Olivier Busquet and Daniel Negreanu.

According to PokerStars Blog, the old codger made plenty of friends during his time at the tables, despite sometimes needing a bit of assistance with regard to chip counts and gentle prodding when it was his turn to act.

Unfortunately, a date with history was not in the cards for Dadoun, who met his tournament demise on Day 2 at the hands of Davidi Kitai. After losing a good portion of his stack with Big Slick, Dadoun was sent packing to Toronto when his two pair fell to a straight on the river.
