While the suit of diamonds plays a huge part in the life of poker pro Bryan Devonshire, another type of diamond took center stage for him about two weeks ago. The setting was a baseball diamond - specifically that of Coors Field in Denver, Colorado prior to a game between the Rockies and Chicago Cubs.

Devonshire had the honor of tossing out the ceremonial first pitch thanks to Daily Fantasy Sports website DraftKings. Known as "MaverickUSC" on DraftKings, Devonshire donned a Colorado Rockies jersey while throwing the first pitch despite being devoted to the San Francisco Giants, as evidenced by his attire at poker tournaments and his Hendon Mob photo.

When confronted on Twitter as to whether Devonshire had perhaps changed his allegiance regarding his favorite team, "devopoker" informed his followers that "those are SFGiants sleeves underneath."

Unfortunately, Devonshire was not allowed to toe the rubber on the pitcher's mound when making the pitch that signifies the game is set to begin. Apparently, ceremonial tosses must be made from directly in front of the mound.

Perhaps the poker pro should have advised the organizers involved that 60 feet, 6 inches was not a problem for him. Devonshire is no stranger to the game of baseball.

"I played baseball competitively growing up and was really good," Devonshire told ESPN four years ago. "The Indians scouted me when I was 14, playing in American Legion ball with 18-year-olds."

Life sometimes leads us on different paths and Devonshire's moved from the baseball field as a teen to the poker tables as an adult where his live tournament earnings have surpassed $2.6 million. His best score was the 2011 WSOP Main Event where a 12th place finish resulted in a payday of $607,882.

Devonshire made a deep run in last year's Main Event as well. Cashing in 25th place added $286,900 to his bankroll.

Although those successes at the poker tables would be highlights of a lifetime for many a poker player, for Devonshire they apparently don't compare to his day in the spotlight on the baseball diamond, as per the below tweet.
