Hilarious Superbowl Prop Bets
8 years ago11 Feb
Last weekendâs Super Bowl 50 final between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers may have been serious business for all those concerned, but there was still a place for humour and fun.
The prop-betting industry goes into over-time during the biggest game of the year, and this time around was no exception, so letâs take a look at some of the strangest and funniest odds which were on offer!
Bovada produced a number of entertaining possible outcomes, none of which had to do with âmost gains madeâ, point-spreads, or the host of other âsportingâ bets which proliferated nationwide.
Instead they wanted to know âwhether Peyton Manning will be seen crying at any point during the entire Broadcast?â and âwhat colour will Beyonceâs shoes be when she appears for the traditional half-time musical interlude!â
As you can imagine, the odds on offer were a mix of âno money to be made hereâ and âseriously? Thatâs almost free money!â
For example, âWhich song will Coldplay play first during the Halftime show?â saw a choice of 8, with the Ftw.usatoday Culture Editor Nate Scottâs verdict being:
Iâm banging Fix You hard. Thatâs free money at 7/2.â
Not so, as it transpired, with Chris Martin and co. launching into 5-1 shot âViva La Vidaâ first up, before playing âParadiseâ, then the newer âAdventure of a Lifetimeâ.
Scottâs âfree-moneyâ prediction of âFix Youâ was in fact their final song, so it pays to not always back the experts!
How about âWhat color will the liquid be that is poured on the winning coach?â Odds of 5/4 for orange (naturally, being the traditional Gatorade colour) but high on the list was Blue at 3/1.
The previous year had seen Blue Gatorade being dumped on the New England Patriots winning coach Bill Belichick last year. Both teams this year playing in blue brought the odds down furtherâŚ.howeverâŚ
...Orange it was â only for the 4th time in the last 15 SuperBowls - with head coach Gary Kubiak happy to take the drenching as his Broncos strode to a 24-10victory.
Some bets were more worrying than amusing, though, with âWill there be an earthquake during the game?â coming in at 10/1 for a yes â which fortunately didnât happen, and to those of us on the other side of the pond the odds were extremely short. Is it really that likely?
The Bovada prop betting list was almost 40 ideas long, and although lacking in the sheer ridiculousness of some prop bets in gambling, the fun element was well to the fore.
And, finally, the colour of Beyonceâs shoes? Black as it happens, the 3/2 favourite on Bovada, although her Christian Louboutin-designed boots may have been the least controversial aspect of her Black Panthers-inspired performance!
