It all started with a sense of despair mixed with a reality of loneliness. That was when he knew, the Hawk had hit rock bottom. Nothing was going Maurice Hawkins’ way; he was running terrible at the poker table and he wasn’t playing his A game at all. Upon realizing those undeniable facts, the Hawk channeled his inner Jordan and took off for higher grounds where poker history is usually made:

What happened next is definitely worthy of a Michael Jordan story. Maurice Hawkins had a premonition that April would be his month and shared it on Twitter with the rest of the world:

Not only was his premonition right, but he was on the verge of doubling it, if not for one heads-up battle against Chris Carey. At the end of his April journey, he won not two but three tourneys including historic back-to-back World Series of Poker Circuit Main Events. Hawkins also finished second in a ring event for the first time in his life. That feeling stuck with him and made him push even harder for his second WSOPC ME title in one month:

What’s more impressive though, is the way he won those two Main Events. In the first one, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Hawk was the big stack most of the way. He started the final table second in chips and wasn’t fazed by the small chip advantage his final opponent, Ryan Phan had on him. He eventually eliminated him and cashed in over $113k. Two weeks later, in Cherokee, North Carolina, Hawkins found himself at the other end of the chip lead, late in the tournament. He started the final day and final table short but picked up the pace when it mattered most. He eliminated three of the final five players building a huge stack that turned out to be too much for the runner-up, Leif Force.

The Cherokee first place prize ( $279,722) was the largest of Hawkins’ 11-year poker career. Overall, only in April, the Hawk cashed in $431,561, by far the most productive month of his career. Not a single WSOPC competitor has managed to reach that number FOR THE SEASON.

Can the Hawk continue his historic flight in May and beyond?
