Although it was Phil Hellmuth’s mouth running the story-telling show on Poker Night in America’s visit to Thunder Valley Casino Resort, there was no argument as to who was boss of the chips in the high-stakes cash game – David ‘ODB’ Baker!

In the place which commentators Chris Hanson and Joe Stapleton describe as “where poker pros and silicon valley tycoons play the sickest hands of poker,” Connecticut-born Baker could do now wrong, in a show rightly entitled ‘California Cooler’.

As you’ll see from watching the show yourself, opponent’s holding pocket tens, or pocket kings are no match for the 44-year old WSOP bracelet winner. Nor does flopping a set hold any fear, as he’ll simply hit the river!

So, while Hellmuth was regaling the table with Golf Digest shoots involving smashing pitching wedges through 30-high stacks of chips, Baker was doing pretty much the same to his tablemates, first Keith Bowman on the receiving end, then Mark Bonsack (no giggling at the name!).

“This is the kind of day that can make you want to quit poker,” claimed Stapleton in the booth, and he wasn’t even talking about Baker’s crushing of all opposition!

That, of course, showed no signs of relenting – suited connectors against flopped set this time? Baker just knew he’d hit the river again, and it’s enough to make a grown man weep when he’s on the opposite end of it – “right in the Bonsack!” being a very apt phrase at this point!

Naturally PNiA is an edited show, so selected highlights from a several hours long session can skew what actually happened, but the numbers rarely lie – Baker finishing the session an amazing $19,625 up from his initial $8k buy-in, the lonely player to avoid being stung by the hot-streak JC Tran also showing a healthy $12K profit.

Hellmuth? Good value for his stories alone, but little to show for his day’s work, while Bonsack and Bowman likely went home cursing the other B, ODB that is!
