Armed with a renewed focus and a bit more knowledge thanks to hours of studying and practicing online, The Poker Monk set out to test his poker skills at the $1/$2 NLHE cash tables of Hollywood Casino.

A $500 an hour high hand promo was an added incentive to visit that particular casino, as was a more laid back vibe compared to the likes of MGM Grand. Comfort in your surroundings certainly contributes to the overall poker-playing experience and it may have an effect on wins and losses as well.

New Goals

Robert Dewberry informed vlog viewers of several new goals he was aiming for after taking some time away from live poker for a bit of study and reflection. Staying patient, executing some betting versus checking strategies, rigid starting hand selection, and making the best possible decisions in every hand were among those goals.

Also part of The Poker Monk's focus was to avoid being so results-oriented. Financial wins and losses are the way that score is kept in poker, but concentrating more on making the correct decisions at every stage of each hand may be more important, as positive results will follow once the proper plays are made.

Jazz and Jokes

What The Poker Monk's latest vlog lacked in hand analysis, it made up for in slow motion poker table shots, Cab Calloway-esque snappy jazz music, and humor. A stop along the way for some beef jerky before arriving at the casino gave viewers a taste of Dewberry's funny side when he paid homage to the cow responsible for allowing him to enjoy the delicious snack.

The Poker Monk reported that he did manage to stick to his goals during this particular poker session and that he was pleased with his overall play. A $99 loss didn't faze him, nor should it, as he fully intends to ride out this current downswing and expects his winning ways to return in short order.
