You Can Bet on Donald Trump Being Impeached

"It’s a great thing… that Donald Trump is president,” is a line less than half of the people you’ll ever meet will say, at least going by the popular vote in the USA, but if you add the phrase ‘for betting markets’ it’s a completely different story!

The markets have exploded into life since Trump hit the White House last month, so much so that now you can bet on just about everything to do with the divisive businessman-turned-politician, with odds of him being impeached or resigning currently sitting at 11-10 – which as those who know their betting means it’s not exactly a long-shot!

Politico.com’s Steven Shepard has compiled an interesting list of the various odds available, with Ladbrokes PR manager Donohue being quoted as saying:

"From a betting perspective, Donald Trump’s presidency has triggered a massive boom for these kinds of markets.”

If you fancy a flutter on Trump not lasting out his first full term, then Bovada will give you “$180 on a $100 bet although you have to note that “the bet is off if Trump passes away during the next four years.” Hmmm, there will be many for whom that will sound like a bad bet!

Irish bookies Paddy Power have the impeachment alone at 4-1, spokesman Lewis Davey stating:

"With such little political experience and a rocky start in the White House, it’s understandable people have their doubts on Trump,” adding: “We’re currently offering 4-to-1 for Trump to be impeached in the first six months.”

How about Donald’s staff? Well, ‘first to leave the White House’ is an option with Sean Spicer at 4-1 to leave by March, but considering Michael Flynn resigned as National Security adviser just a day or two ago, many punters may have missed the boat on that one!

And what of ‘the next Trump staffer “to quote a fake terror attack?” Again Spicer, the White House press secretary, leads the betting with odds of 5-to-6.

Paddy Power will be hoping the excitement of betting on Trump’s presidency works out a bit better than the betting on him actually becoming president did, the £5 million loss leaving them “with some expensive egg on our faces” although he told politico’s Shephard that it “won’t stop us from offering odds on U.S. politics.”

Ladbrokes and Paddy Power are agreed on one point, and that’s the marketing power of the Trump name.

"With Donald Trump, everything he does, it can be turned into speculation, and that can be turned into gambling,” says Donohue, with Davey adding: “Trump is the gift that keeps on giving. We’ve got a bonanza of betting specials on The Donald.”
