Jason Mercier Describes Aria Private Games As A ‘Tragedy’ For Poker
The World Series of Poker pushed a few big stories into the background this past month or two
Jason Mercier is widely considered to be one of the best all-round poker players in the world today, and has been ranked number 1 by both ESPN and Global Poker Index.
Originally from the east coast of Florida, Mercier was first introduced to poker in high school, interested in the mathematical side of the game. Mercier went on to Florida Atlantic University for one year, before attending Broward Community College for another two years to complete his Associates Degree, with the intention to pursue mathematics. However, as his success in poker began to grow, and his earning potential became evident, Mercier turned away from his studies and pursued poker full time. Mercier was first introduced to the poker world as he won the first major event that he played, the 2008 San Reno EPT for $1,372,893. Mercier continued this trend of instant success as he finished 6th at the 2008 Barcelona EPT, and taking down the High Roller Event at the European Poker Championships.
Banking over $2,000,000 in tournament winnings for 2008 made it a fantastic breakout year for Mercier. Mercier has enjoyed considerable success at the World Series of Poker, with nine final tables and two gold bracelets. Both his bracelets are Pot-Limit Omaha, as he won the $1,500 event in 2009 and the $5,000 six-handed event in 2011. Mercier has also performed well at the World Series of Poker Europe making the final table of the main event twice: 4th in 2009 and 8th in 2012.
Online, Mercier is currently a member of Team Pokerstars, which he gained after achieving the SuperNova Elite status for his high level of play on the site. While he currently plays under his real name, Mercier’s old online username ‘treysfull21’ came from his belief that pocket threes were his lucky hand, combined with 21 – his lucky number.

The World Series of Poker pushed a few big stories into the background this past month or two
In the second big departure of the week, 5-time WSOP bracelet winner Jason Mercier has decided to part ways with PokerStars.
Betting on the World Series of Poker takes many forms, but players offering odds on themselves to land a bracelet or two (or even 3!) seems to be the in thing as this year’s WSOP gets underway.
A stone cold bluff on the river with an all-in shove for $13,900 by Esther 'E-Tay' Taylor did not induce the fold she was hoping for from Jason Mercier.
Mercier explained in an interview that 2-7 single draw is one of the purest forms of poker, in terms of reading your opponent, whether he has it or doesn't, and whether he has the best hand or your do.
Jason Mercier Wins Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open High Roller Event
Almost every action he took and every tournament he entered was newsworthy in some way. From bracelet wins, to crazy and controversial prop bets, to marriage proposals and Twitter wars.
A new poker player has arrived on the scene, coming into this world with a poker pedigree that may very well be off the charts.
Former poker player Annie Duke may be well used to receiving abuse for her shady practices over the years, but it was Liv Boeree in the firing line on Twitter.
The World Series of Poker is not just about Texas Holdem, it’s about other less known poker games too. Forget about Omaha, Stud and Lowball, do you know anything about Badacy? How about Baducy?
