NFL Star Cody Latimer Fired After Shootout at Poker Game

NFL star Cody Latimer is in a spot of bother after being arrested following a shootout at a poker game. Back in May the Washington Redskins wide receiver allegedly assaulted a fellow player with a pistol and let off two warning shots without aiming at anybody.

Now the 27-year-old has had his contract terminated and his trial opened on September 10th 2020.

He had been placed on the Commissioner’s Exemption List since his arrest, which made him ineligible for practice as well as games, while facing no less than three felony charges - illegal discharge of a firearm, assault in the second degree, and menacing.

Polarised Opinions

As is usual in today’s world, opinions are quite polarised on the matter because of Latimer’s reasons for going off on one.

The American got involved in a dispute over a sexual assault allegation on his four-year-old son. Roderick English, the game host, was forced to break up the action following the fracas, but Latimer returned half an hour later to confront him, pulling out a gun.

This all comes at a sensitive time when the NFL is trying to clean up its image. Other players have also had contracts terminated after run ins with the law.

Time will tell if Latimer can return to the sport when his case has been dealt with.
