Washington Redskins footballer Cody Latimer is facing several serious charges after he pulled a gun out at a poker game and threatened to “kill everybody” after an alleged sexual assault on his 4-year old child.

The bizarre incident took place last Friday night at the home of Latimer’s friend, Roderick English, in Douglas County, Colorado.

Police were called to a ‘possible shots fired’ situation around midnight and arrested Latimer, booking him in on the charges listed below:

  • Assault in the 2nd Degree
  • Menacing Behaviour
  • Illegal Discharge of a Firearm
  • Prohibited Use of a Weapon
  •  Reckless Endangerment

Initial press reports detailed an argument taking place while English was hosting a poker night with his girlfriend, Latimer getting into an argument with a fellow player.

After having been thrown out, Latimer returned shortly afterwards and pulled out a gun, allegedly telling English that he had ‘saved two rounds of ammunition’ for them.

Allegedly threatening to "kill everybody", English says that he managed to calm Latimer down, the NFL footballer "removing the magazine and clearing the chamber."

However, the incident flared up again, Latimer ‘firing off two shots from his gun’ before the pair began fighting, the poker homegame host receiving cuts to his head during the scuffle.

According to Latimer’s lawyer, however, there is much more to the incident than was first suspected.

He told ESPN's Adam Schefter:

"There’s an entire back story to this situation that constitutes one of the most highly provocative situations you can imagine. Please withhold judgment until all the facts of what took place that night are known."

Rumours are circulating that one of the players in the poker game had sexually assaulted Latimer’s 4-year old child, though these are unconfirmed allegations that police are investigating

Latimer was released on a $25,000 bond and is next due to appear in court on July 24th.
