We may have got the name wrong in last week’s breaking news of the staggering $100k prop bet that will see a pro poker player spending 30 days and night in complete darkness and isolation – but the bet itself is happening as you read this…
It’s not Huck Seed as our sources first said, although he did apparently offer to do a $1million version of the bathroom challenge, but rather Rich Alati who has taken up fellow Vegas pro Rory Young’s challenge – and it’s a brutal one to say the least…
“The conditions are complete darkness, so no electronics, no light-emitting devices, no drugs of any kind,” Young told PokerNews’ Mo Nuwarrah.
With no way of knowing how much time has passed apart from the somewhat random food deliveries every 3 to 6 days, many think it’s impossible…
According to PocketFives.com, there are ‘five night-vision cameras broadcasting around the clock and the only privacy Alati gets is when he’s in the shower or the toilet cubicle. Alati’s family and a few select others have access to the feed’.
Although quite a few people have declared the bet dangerous, Alati’s sister included, Young explained:
“She tried very hard to get him to pull out and he wasn’t having it. She’s pretty worried”. He added: “I’m a firm believer in that there are two consenting adults and if it doesn’t do any harm to a third party, then it’s morally justifiable”.
Will Alati win the bet, or will he beg to be let out early? With only a Rubik’s Cube for company the clever money is on the latter – and Daniel Negreanu agrees…
…although fellow high-stakes pro Brian Rast thinks Alati could win the bet…
And what of the Huck Seed angle? As Young explained:
“The other night, I get a phone call from a random number and it’s Huckleberry Seed. Long story short, he wants to do it for a million, but he wants much tougher conditions.”
According to Young, the legendary Seed offered to:
“Do it with no bed, no food for the first 21 days, he’d do it for a total of 40 days, and just water. Also, he said I could put some cockroaches in the bathroom!”
