Poker players often feel a disturbing bit of sadness when the annual WSOP festival in Las Vegas reaches its conclusion in July.
Exciting non-stop poker tournaments with huge prize pools and the opportunity to win coveted gold bracelets run for six weeks or so and then come to an end, leaving many a player wishing for more WSOP action.
It's loads of fun while it lasts, especially for those players who make the journey home with more money in their pockets than when they came. But for those who can't make it to the WSOPE events, waiting another year for the Rio to pack with poker tables can sometimes feel like torture.
That situation has led to some discussion on social media over perhaps a winter WSOP poker festival being added to the mix. JC Tran got the ball rolling with the following tweet:
Hundreds of likes and retweets followed, making it seem like an idea whose time has come. After all, wouldn't it be more pleasant to make a trip to Vegas in the winter months when it isn't so unbearably hot outside?
Of course, there are reasons why the WSOP is held in the brutal summer months. One of which being that the hotels have plenty of vacancies as its not the optimal time of year for a Nevada vacation.
In any event, adding a winter festival of some sort is seemingly in the works, according to a tweet by Scott Seiver in response to Tran's social media message.
World Series of Cash Games has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? While still short on details, the idea seems to be gaining momentum and may mirror the cash game festival that has proven quite popular in Europe.
We anxiously await more information from Seiver on the proposed WSOCG. Tentatively mark your calendars for February 2018!
