A poker game being played after midnight in a back room of a Chicago cafe was the scene of a robbery earlier this month, with the perpetrators making off with cash, cellphones and credit cards of the players.

Seven men were gathered round a poker table at the rear of the Cafe Zippo on Lincoln Ave. at 2:00 a.m. on March 14 when two gunmen burst in, shouting “Police! Police! Everybody down on the ground!” The shouts of the gunmen claiming to be law enforcement turned out to be a ruse, according to dnainfo.com.

The perps were let in after banging on the front door and immediately made their way to the back room. The Cafe Zippo owner was made to fork over his cellphone and a large amount of cash. The poker players were likewise forced to cough up the goods.

Roughly $7,000 in cash and cellphones was taken by the robbers, in addition to debit and credit cards of the victims. One robber’s jacket said “Police” on the back, to go along with a pair of handcuffs dangling from his pants.

A waiting getaway car in the back alley allowed the robbers to make good their escape. No injuries were reported in the heist.

Cafe Zippo is just a few minutes away from a police station on Lincoln Ave.
