He may have finished in 8th place in the WSOP Monster Stack, but Caio Toledo of Brazil will forever be in 1st place in the heart of his girlfriend – who now proudly displays an engagement ring.
Following his elimination from the Monster Stack final table when his flush lost to a higher flush, Toledo took the opportunity to pop the question to his gf waiting on the rail. Her answer was a resounding “yes,” and for a brief moment, winning pots and collecting prize money took a back seat to romance.
Toledo planned his proposal before coming to Las Vegas, keeping it a secret from his lovely girlfriend. ” It was a surprise for me, I’m so happy,” she said, showing off the ring.
Navigating a huge field of 7,192 to make it to the final table, Toledo sat alongside fellow countryman Fernando Konishi, who placed one position higher in 7th. It was the first-ever WSOP cash for both, and the first-ever cash in any live tournament for the newly-betrothed, according to the Hendon Mob.
Toledo grabbed $150,783 in prize money, while his Brazilian homeboy earned $195,543. The Monster Stack title and $1,286,942 went to American Perry Shiao, whose million-dollar payday included a gold bracelet in his first-ever WSOP cash.
No details yet on a wedding date for the happy couple. Perhaps sometime around the Latin American Poker Tour in Sao Paulo, Brazil from November 24 through December 2?
