The tilt one Canadian poker player was probably about to experience when his quad jacks got rivered turned to leaps of joy when he discovered he had won the biggest share of a $1.2millionbad beat jackpot at the Playground Poker Club cardroom near downtown Montreal.

The progressive bad beat jackpot had climbed beyond the $million mark in the weeks leading up to the hand which saw Elphege Delarosbil holding the red pocket jacks on a flop of Jc 6h 9s. When the turn came Js it looked certain that he’d be taking down the pot, but when the river fell 10s and the money went in, his opponent Shane Galle turned over Qs 8s for the rivered straight flush – and the entire poker room went home winners.

Delarosbil scooped the lion’s share of the massive windfall - $460,000 – while Galle walked off with $230,000, but the rest of the table also cashed in for over $30,000 each – and everyone else in the room received $1200. All in Canadian currency, but even converted it’s a healthy payday for all involved, CAD$1= US$0.80.

According to Cardplayer.com, ‘The jackpot had been building for more than six months, and the hand that needed to be beat was quad eights, with both hole cards playing. The poker room took $2 from every qualifying pot to help build the bad beat fund.’

Cardschat.com report that ‘The whole room erupted in cheers as confetti cannons showered the table and champagne was poured for a celebration that last several minutes’, as Delarosbil’s lucky jacks jackpot exceeded the  record of $427,000 back in September of 2015 when quad nines won against quad sevens.

The Playground Poker Club's bad beat jackpot has been around since the club opened its doors back in 2011 and to qualify you generally need a hand of quad aces, but this goes down every three weeks to a minimum losing hand of quad eights – with the jackpot starting at starts at CAD$250,000.

Delarosbil’s huge win came at the $1/2 cash tables, proving you sometimes don’t have to play high-stakes to walk off with a millionaire’s wallet in your pocket!
