Carol Fuchs has become the first woman to take out an event in this year’s WSOP after she claimed the top spot in the $1,500 Dealer’s Choice event (Event #52) over the weekend. Everything has been leading to this moment, as female players have been performing extremely well at this year's Series and it was only a matter of time before one of them ran away with the most coveted trinket in poker.

The screenwriter, who had a hand in writing the screenplay for the movie No Reservations, beat the likes of Robert Mizrachi,Jeremy Ausmus and Todd Brunson, who were all part of the 357 player field.
That is an even bigger feat considering that Fuchs is widely considered to be an “amateur player” on the felt. However, the married mother said she was not bothered by the presence of big name professionals in the event.
When I was playing at the final table, I really felt comfortable. I didn’t really feel much pressure. It’s fun for me. It’s not a payday. They had more pressure, I think. For me, this is a bonus. Carol Fuchs, WSOP.com Blog;Fuchs was in great shape to take out the event at the start of the final day of play, having had the third largest stack of the remaining 11 players when the day began. She boosted her stack early in the day after winning a major four-way hand, but found herself being overtaken by other players as the day progressed.
That all changed when the event got down to its final five players, with Fuchs having been the first player to get a chip stack of over one million. Fuchs managed to hold on to her chips and continued to add to her stack, leading to her having a two-to-one chip lead when heads-up play between her and Ilya Krupin got underway.
It was a lead she never relinquished as she eventually knocked Krupin out of the tournament to win the Dealer’s Choice event, as well as the Gold Bracelet and US$127,735 prize for first place. The victory at the Dealer’s Choice event makes Fuchs the 21st female to win a WSOP event in its entire history.
Last year’s Dealer’s Choice winner, Robert Mizrachi, came close to winning this year’s event for the second straight time, but had to settle for third after he was eliminated by Krupin, denying him back-to-back honours.
