Barcelona constantly gets rave reviews for being a lovely city, especially in the European summer; the sun is almost constantly out, the streets are bustling and activities are in abundance.

Perhaps this could at least partly explain why the turnout at this year’s European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona Estrellas Main Event has been so huge.

A total of 3,292 players registered for the event’s three starting flights, 984 of which made the cut to the second day of play.

Only ten per cent of those players ended up surviving Day 2 as chips flew and players were eliminated in rapid fast fashion.

Jose Carlos Garcia will enter Day 3 with the chip lead over the remaining field with a stack of 3,752,000 chips to his name.

With 3,302,000 chips, Russian Nikolay Fal has the second largest stack in the event while Jonn Forst will enter the third day of play as the only other player with over 3 million chips, with 3,080,000 chips.

One of the most notable faces in the remaining field in the Estrellas Main Event is Brazilian poker pro Andre Akkari.

Akkari, who won a WSOP Gold Bracelet in 2011 and has 10 total WSOP in the money finishes to his name, finished Day 2 with 325,000 chips.

The prize pool for the Main Event was also announced during the early stages of the event, and the top 487 players will be in the money.

The final table is where the big money is at though, with eighth place set to leave with an extra 52,100 Euros (around US$59,330).

That is set to boost dramatically for whomever makes it to fifth place, with 116,540 Euros (around US$132,715) reserved for that spot.

256,500 Euros (around US$292,100) will go to the runner up while a whopping 491,000 Euros (around US$559,150) is set to go to the player who takes out the event.

As always, we at PokerTube will keep readers up to date on the remainder of the EPT Barcelona Estrellas Main Even when all of the action has taken place.
