The English city of Nottingham has played host to the latest leg of the United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT), the UKIPT Nottingham.

A number of events have already been done and dusted at the latest series, including the High Roller event, which was won by Ivan Luca, who took home £46,800 (around US$69,940) for the win.

Now the focus has turned to the UKIPT Nottingham Main Event, which has attracted poker players and pros from all over the UK, Europe and the world.

A total of 1,026 entrants (914 of which were individual participants) were registered over the four staring flights of this year’s Main Event.

Competition was cutthroat from the start, however, and only 380 of the original starting field managed to make the cut to the second day of play.

Competition only got fiercer from there as player after player was sent packing to put the remaining field down to just 38 for the third and final day of the event.

The last day of the event, which is set to take place later today, will not be any easier for the remaining players as a champion is set to be crowned at the end of it.

That means each of those 38 players will have to stay on their A games if they wish to be in the final table let alone in the winner’s chair.

UK’s own David Clarkson looks to be the player most poised to be in that position. He will entered the third day of play as the event’s chip leader, with a stack of 1,715,000 to his name.

Clarkson had a solid performance on the felt in Day 2 as he bolstered his stack to take the lead during the day.

He’ll have his fair share of competitors on Day 3, however, including Richard Jones, whose stack size is not that much lower at 1,465,000 chips.

Irishman Patrick Clarke is also a solid hand away from claiming the lead as his own. Clarke finished Day 2 with a stack of 1,404,000 and has put himself in a good position to go far in this event.

While only one of the remaining players will be crowned the champion of the Main Event, they can all take heed in the fact that they will be in the money regardless of what position they finish in.

The top 151 players in the Main Event all received cash payouts, but the ‘big money’ lies in the top six.

Sixth place in this year’s UKIPT Nottingham Main Event stands to get £32,000 (around US$47,820), while the winner of the event will get a very handy£182,000 (around US$272,000).
