After devastating earthquake hit Nepal on April 25th, PokerStars and Full Tilthave set up a relief fund to help those who were struck by this natural disaster. Amaya, as a parent company of the online rooms, decided to fully match the entire donated amount.

After they extended appeal until May 25 due to the second earthquake that hit the same area, PokerStars has revealed this week that its players and staff donated impressive $255,447.47. That means that total amount of money that will go to help the people of Nepal is exceeds half a million dollars.

The total amount raised for CARE is certainly one of the biggest amounts of money raised by the poker community in recent years. CARE is currently in Nepal, helping people to recover from the earthquake which caused widespread destruction and loss of life.

Every dollar makes a difference and once again poker community has proved that it is willing to support various charities and step out to help those in distress. Nepal earthquake caused death of about 8,659 people and more than 100,000 were injured according to the recent reports. 384 people are still missing and more than 500,000 houses have been completely destroyed.

Humanitarian partners have estimated that 2.8m people are in need of some form of assistance for at least another four months. This means that PokerStars and Full Tilt players have helped many people living below the poverty line.

It was also reported that 1,000 health facilities were destroyed in this devastating earthquake and that nearly a million children will be unable to return to school because estimated 30,000 classrooms were destroyed.

Spokesman for PokeStars said that PokerStars players have opened their hearts and wallets to less fortunate around the world. CARE sent message from Nepal and thanked all players for money and support at times of this international disaster.

In 2013 PokerStars has set up a Typhoon Haiyan relief fund and raised more than $560,000 and as it was reported last year, donations certainly made a difference.
