The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Peru Main Event has come to a close and Claudio Moya has emerged victorious. The 51-year-old Chilean businessman started the final day of day as the chip leader, and he continued his stellar play en route to winning the event , topping the total field of 366.

Chilean poker player Ricardo Chauriye was the short stack of the final table, and it would prove to his downfall as he was the first player eliminated from the last eight.

Chauriye went all-in pre flop with Ace King off suit and was called by Colombian Daniel Ramirez, who was slightly ahead with Pocket Eights. The Eights held on the board to put the tournament down to seven.

Next to go was Jose Ili, who came out second best in the classic Kings vs Aces cooler against Claudio Moya. Moya’s Aces remained dominant throughout the board and Ili was eliminated in seventh place as a result.

Sixth place went to young Brazilian poker professional Helio Neves after he was eliminated by Chadi Moustapha. The Lebanese player rivered a flush to put the event down to its final five players.

Another Brazilian would be eliminated shortly after. This time it was Marcus Martinez, who would become Moya’s second final table scalp at this event. Moya went all-in after the turn, when he hit a pair of Aces with a Queen kicker. He was called by the Brazilian, who also had Aces, but only with a Nine kicker.

An Eight came on the river, which did not improve Martinez’s hand and he was sent to the rail.

Moustapha then claimed a second final table scalp of his own after he ended Cristian Ruiz's efforts in the LAPT Peru Main Event, sending him home with the fourth place cash.

Ruiz went all-in pre flop with Pocket Eights, but unfortunately for him Moustapha was waiting in the wings with Pocket Tens and he did not hesitate to call. The Tens held on the 7k754 board and that was all she wrote for Ruiz.

Ramirez was next to go after an exciting hand which saw the Colombian hunting for a draw. He went all-in after a 5 [7_spade]q with a nut flush draw, and was called by Moya, who had top pair. No more spades came on the turn or on the river, which meant Ramirez was eliminated in third place.

Ramirez’s elimination left Moya and Moustapha in heads-up play, with Moya having slightly more than a 3.5 to 1 chip lead when to begin with. That did not deter Moustapha though, who rallied early on before both players agreed on a deal that would see each of them leave with at least US$120,000.

Moustapha then took the chip lead after he continued his solid play, but Moya was far from done. A big double up put the Chilean back in the lead, and it was all Moya from that point on as he sailed to the victory in the event.

In the final hand Moustapha went all-in pre flop with qj and was eventually called by Moya who was slightly in front with a4 .

The 783 kept Moya in front as did the 8 on the turn, which left Moustapha needing a pair on the river if he was to survive and continue in this event.

It did not happen, though, as the 2 was the last card to be shown, which eliminated Moustapha from the event in second place and made Moya the winner of the LAPT Peru Main Event, an achievement worth $135,876.
