PokerStars Sends Emails to NJ Players with Unclaimed Funds

Online poker players in New Jersey who were previous customers of PokerStars and didn't claim their outstanding balances in 2011 are being contacted by the site so that their balances can be settled.
Parent company Amaya has been required by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement to wipe the slate clean with regard to money remaining in player accounts, even if the balance in question is a few pennies. The directive is part of the Transactional Waiver Order issued by the DGE on September 30, 2015 that allows PokerStars to operate in New Jersey.
A diligent effort must be made by PokerStars to return any outstanding funds to former players. One such NJ player with a balance of four cents ($0.04) shared the missive he received from PokerStars on a Pocketfives poker forum, with a suggestion from the site on what to do with his unclaimed money.
As the remaining balance is less than the cost to process a return of the funds, we’d like to offer you the option of instead donating the funds to CCGNJ - Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey charity. Should you wish for us to do this, please send an email to support (at) pokerstars.net."
The player agreed to donate the funds to the CCGNJ and received, in part, the following response from a representative from PokerStars Payment Services
We appreciate your gesture and invite you to continue being a part of PokerStars once we launch our real-money games in your state again on January 1st, 2016."
It appeared that an announcement had been made as to when New Jersey players could begin playing at a regulated PokerStars site in New Jersey - the first of the year. However, that assumption was short-lived when a PokerStars Poker Room Manager, Bryan Slick, chimed in a few hours later that a launch date has not yet been confirmed.
We are investigating where the date in this email came from as it is not part of our standard response." Slick posted. "In any event the information is wrong. Once we have a date to communicate we’ll do so in a proper manner, rather than via an email to a single player."
New Jersey players who receive a notice and would like to claim their cash are advised to contact [email protected]. Players that are contacted and fail to act by December 28, 2015 on any unclaimed funds will see their balances turned over to the state. Any efforts by players to claim the funds after that date must go through the New Jersey Unclaimed Property Department.
Players in New Jersey who were hoping to be playing at PokerStars by Christmas can likely stop thinking along those lines. All signs point to a launch in 2016.
