PokerStars New Jersey Launch Months Away

When PokerStars finally received approval on September 30 from the Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) to operate online poker and gambling sites in New Jersey, many thought that a launch date would follow soon after.
Not so fast.
It was learned today that Amaya expects to be up and running in the Garden State sometime during the first half of next year. Amaya CEO David Baazov revealed the timeframe during a conference call, indicating that a more precise date will be announced at a later time nearer to the impending launch.
What's the holdup?
It's likely that the testing of PokerStars' software will keep players in New Jersey competing at BorgataPoker, Partypoker, WSOP and 888poker for the time being. The DGE apparently leaves no stones unturned when making sure that its gaming site operators meet the lofty regulatory standards established.
Not long ago, New Jersey online poker players couldn't wait to be reunited with the red spade. However, PokerStars' reputation - at least in the eyes of some - has taken a bit of a beating this month due to the announced player reward modifications that will take effect on Jan. 1.
Whether the new parameters of the player loyalty program at PokerStars' worldwide site will be replicated at its New Jersey offering is not yet known. What is known is that the online poker industry leader is not enjoying its finest hour at this point in time.
