Kevin ‘Phwap’ Boudreau made headlines in the poker community in 2013 after an unfortunate and sudden brain hemorrhage left him in a coma. It was an event that shocked everyone in the poker world, especially those who knew and played with him on the felt.

The recovery progress was long and there were no guarantees that the American poker shark would ever fully recover from this ordeal. However, Phwap defied many of the odds and made his supporters happy by recovering to the point where he eventually returned to professional poker.

Boudreau made his return to the game in November last year at an event in his home state of Colorado, where he amazingly finished in fourth place. The return to live tournament poker left some wondering if he would ever return to the big league of poker, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

Well, Boudreau himself will answer that in the coming days in the form of actions as he is set to sit down and play at this year’s Main Event in Las Vegas.

Phwap will be sponsored by 888poker, which is also the sponsor of the WSO. 888 SVP Itai Panzer said that he and 888 were more than happy to be able to sponsor Phwap’s WSOP return given the remarkable recovery he has made.

Given the challenges that Kevin has faced over the past couple of years and his determination to resume his playing, 888poker was honored to enable him to join this prestigious event and fulfill his wish to compete with the world's top players

Boudreau’s participation in this year’s WSOP Main Event is more than likely to win the hearts and minds of most, if not every stakeholder in the world of poker. The poker community was staunchly united in its support for Phwap following his unfortunate haemorrhage two years ago, as shown by the numerous messages and donations made towards paying his hospital and recovery costs.

However, Phwap’s return to the WSOP Main Event should not be purely seen as a token move.

While playing in the most famous poker tournament on the globe after a brain haemorrhage is something that in itself is highly commendable, Phwap has done reasonably well in the events he has played in following his November return to live poker.

Because of that, people shouldn’t be so surprised if Phwap makes a deep run in this year’s Main Event.
