The evolution of digital currency and its place in poker - both live and online - took a step forward as cryptocurrency-based poker site CoinPoker announced a partnership with the Asian Poker Tour.

A recent trip to several Asian countries by the CoinPoker executive team has resulted in the agreement that will see CoinPoker sponsoring this year's APT. The partnership will benefit poker players in several ways, the best of those perhaps being the opportunity to participate in online satellites at CoinPoker and win a seat to the APT Main Event in Macau on April 28 at no cost whatsoever.

The deal includes online qualifiers to a number of tour events, with the action beginning on April 13 at CoinPoker with two daily satellites that will allow winners to take seats in three main qualifiers set for the 15th, 19th, and 22nd of April where 10 top prizes will be won. Those prizes include Main Event seats and packages that cover hotel and travel expenses to Macau.

“With the sponsorship, CoinPoker will offer players around the world online satellite packages to APT Main and Super High Roller events as well as other tournaments," said APT General Manager Lloyd Fontillas. He added that players will also have an "opportunity to win APT tournament credits that can be used at any APT event.”

Blockchain Solutions

In addition to online satellites sending winners to live APT poker tournaments, the collaboration will also permit APT players to use CoinPoker's very own cryptocurrency, CHP, to purchase seats for APT events. This is an exciting and perhaps historic development that may be the wave of the future with regard to the blending of cryptocurrency and live poker.

“APT event players will now be able to buy in and cash out using CHP," Fontillas added.

The CoinPoker and APT agreement doesn't end with online satellites to live events and the adoption of blockchain solutions to poker via the introduction of cryptocurrency payment options. There will be other new and exciting promotions as time marches on.

In the near term, however, there are a combination of ten APT Main Event seats and packages in Macau up for grabs. CoinPoker is also sponsoring the APT Players Party.

It has also been revealed that the CoinPoker Super High Rollers featuring a 200,000 HKD buy-in set for April 25 in Macau will be live-streamed for the pleasure of poker fans everywhere.

This newly-formed partnership between APT and CoinPoker is likely only the first of many unions that the crypto-based poker room is working on in the Asian continent. Details of other alliances are expected to follow shortly.
