Dan Bilzerian, the high-stakes poker player and King of Instagram, has appeared in his latest movie – the action thriller Extraction with Bruce Willis – to somewhat unenthusiastic audiences.

The multi-millionaire playboy has already appeared in four previous movies, the most recent before Extraction being The Equalizer in 2014. But this time around, the thrill-seeker has picked a less-than-amazing vehicle for his Hollywood dreams.

In Extraction, a former CIA operative (Bruce Willis) is kidnapped by a group of terrorists. When his son (played by Kellan Lutz) learns there is no plan for his father to be saved, he launches his own rescue operation. The usual chaos ensues in this ‘paint-by-numbers affair’, as it was described on Rotten Tomatoes.

Bilzerian himself plays a character by the name of Higgins, but along with the rest of the cast he suffers more from a lack of a compelling story-line as opposed to bad acting skills – although the female interest, played by Gina Carano, is rather under-whelming in her role.

At just 83 minutes, the R-rated movie scores 4/10 on the popular imdb.com site, but amazingly achieves a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With its release having occurred only a couple of days before Christmas, its reputation might still climb somewhat, but one film critic of the Toronto Globe and Mail might not agree:

Extraction? I’d rather have my teeth pulled by diseased, evil monkeys,” was his no punches-pulled review.

Bilzerian’s other movie roles have generally fared much better. The gun enthusiast who made his millions from shrewd investments and venture capitalism can include Olympus Has Fallen, Lone Survivor and The Other Woman among his credits, working with the likes of huge stars such as Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Mark Wahlberg, Cameron Diaz, and Denzel Washington.

Bilzerian is famed for his high-stakes gambling. His poker games are legendary for the millions of dollars changing hands, and his care-free approach to life in general has seen the 32-year-old swim through alligator-infested lakes and jump from 90-foot high cliffs.

Having started out with the intention of joining the Navy SEALS, Bilzerian found himself honourably discharged just days before graduation after violating safety protocols. He then majored in business and criminology at the University of Florida before finding financial success and the subsequent ability to indulge his every fantasy.

Not one to shy away from controversy, ‘Blitz’ Bilzerian has provoked extreme responses with his Twitter postings on a wide range of topics from the Paris terrorist attacks to US gun laws – not to mention his outlandish behaviour and views when it comes to the opposite sex!

Back in Hollywood-land, Bilzerian’s recent effort may not have set the cinemas alight despite the star-studded cast - as Liz Braun of the Toronto Sun said: “It’s a rare movie that can’t be saved by Bruce Willis single-handedly killing all the bad guys. And yet, here it is: Extraction.” – but rest-assured that 2016 is unlikely to see Bilzerian suddenly turn into a media-shy hermit, so watch this space!
