A man wanted in connection with a spate of casino robberies and carjackings has been arrested by Las Vegas police, the suspect described as having “a long history of being a dangerous criminal.”
33-year-old Dshante Styles is believed to be behind at least six casino heists, along with two carjackings, beginning late last year.
A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) video released earlier this year showed the suspect, though Styles wasn’t arrested until last week.
There were four attacks in the run up to Christmas last year - attacks on the Gold Coast, Green Valley Ranch, Silverton, and Rampart casinos between November 16th and Christmas Eve.
The arrest came about an LVMPD officer found a stolen car which had been used during the robbery of another, unspecified casino a few days previously.
Styles ran off when approached , but police were able to identify him and arrested him a few days later.
In a press conference, LVMPD Deputy Chief Nicholas Farese declined to name the casinos targeted in the armed robberies, but described Styles as a “dangerous criminal”.
“We quickly realized that the suspect was brazen and a threat to our community,” Farese said. “At the direction of Sheriff Kevin McMahill, we devoted the weight of our organization to apprehend this dangerous individual.”
“Styles has a long history of being a dangerous criminal,” Farese told reporters, adding that Styles had previously served prison stints for similar crimes.
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, the suspect was “booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges including six counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, 11 counts of burglary with a deadly weapon and five counts of grand larceny auto.”
