While most will point to Daniel Negreanu's second place showing in the $1 million Big One for One Drop for a payday of more than $8 million as a successful summer at the WSOP, the Canadian pro's success goes well beyond that.

KidPoker visited the Rio cashier cage eight other times in the month of June. His WSOP began with a bang when a runner-up finish in $10,000 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball (Event #13) was good for $156,674.

Deep runs in three other $10,000 buy-in events followed. Negreanu finished 10th in Seven Card Razz, 18th in H.O.R.S.E., and 10th in NLHE Heads-Up for combined winnings of more than $73,000. In-between those $10k events, the Team PokerStars Pro also landed in 10th place in $1,500 Seven Card Stud (Event #34) for $8,504.

Three other cashes in $1,500 buy-in events were Negreanu's next targets prior to his huge $8 million score. Finishing 63rd in Limit Hold'em was good for $2,926, 25th place in NLHE Ante-Up added $6,573 to his summer and career totals, and 9th place in Eight Game Mix produced a payday of $9,014, the Hendon Mob database reported.

His most recent and final cash (thus far) was the runner-up finish to Daniel Colman in the Big One for One Drop that enabled KidPoker to land at the top of poker's all-time money list. As everyone knows, Colman created quite a controversy by taking the opportunity to shun interviews and instead point out some of the negatives surrounding the game of poker.

In an interview with PokerTube's Rikard Aberg, Negreanu touched upon Colman's somewhat shocking behavior that elicited quite a backlash from the poker community. Ever the poker ambassador, Negreanu respected Colman's decision to avoid interviews as he is under no obligation to do so. However, KidPoker did point out that Colman's message could have been more effective had he handled it a bit differently.

In any event, Negreanu will attempt to make it an even 10 cashes in the 2014 WSOP by finishing strong in the Main Event. His chip total after Day 1 sits at 129,250 and poker's all-time money leader appears poised and ready for another deep run to put an exclamation point on a fantastic summer at the Rio just prior to his 40th birthday.
