Washington DC music lover David Israelite has 175,500 things to sing about this week after scooping the MGM National Harbor Potomac Open Main Event to record his first tournament victory since 2006.

The President and CEO of NMPA – an organisation representing all American music publishers and their songwriting partners whose mission is ‘to protect, promote, and advance the interests of music’s creators’ – took a break from his day job to compete in the weekend-long $2700 buy-in Main Event, and it proved to be a wise choice.

Some 234 entries were vying for the $585,000 prizefund at the Oxon Hill-based MGM National Harbor Casino and Spa in Washington DC, the MGM crew running the series of events this week using Twitter to update fans and players alike as the tournament progressed…

…and the players seemed to be enjoying the well-run event which the organisers hope to repeat this coming summer, likely in July…

Despite some confusion over who was in which seat – and therefore who exactly had hit the rails at times, the Twitter feed was as good a way as any to keep an eye on the final table, Israelite finding pocket aces at a good time to dispose of Ryan Tamnanini – Ryan returning to tournament poker last after a long break and cashing many times on his comeback trail.

It was turning into the Israelite show at the final table as the music man also saw off Darrien Williams in 4th and then Robert McLaughlin in 3rd to set-up a heads-up clash with An-Ming Hwang.

For Centreville, Virginia man Hwang it was by far the biggest buy-in and payday of his poker life, and it all ended quite peaceably when the top duo decided discretion was the better part of valour…

…although the casino were a tad shy about revealing just what the pair had agreed on…

The winner, David Israelite, was a little less reticent about sharing his excellent victory with Twitter and Instagram both proudly showing off his newest title…

…likely to balance out the fact that Israelite is more often handing out awards in his music role than receiving them!
