Players on Carbon Poker site claimed that they were victims of DDoS attack on December 7 th. Carbon Poker dismissed these comments but the players exchanged numerous private messages confirming that DDoS attack is exactly what had happened and that the other sites might be in danger too.

Information about what actually happened is still unknown and most of the people are not sure what DDoS attack means.

DDOS is a short for Distributed Denial of Service. It can be done by an organized group or a hacker himself using botnet.

The term bot is short for robot. Criminals distribute malicious software (also known as malware) that can turn your computer into a bot. When this occurs, your computer can perform automated tasks over the Internet, without you knowing it. http://www.microsoft.com/ ;

With a large number of computers attacking and sending requests to virus-infected computers even government or corporate web servers can be attacked. The attacked computers are called “Zombies” because they do everything DDoSer commands them to do. Symptoms of DDOS are unusually slow network performance, unavailability of particular web site, disconnection of wireless and receiving a big amount of spam e-mails. Big companies like Microsoft, Amazon, CNN and Yahoo were a victim of Distributed Denial of Service too.

The attack on Carbon Poker Site isn’t the first time that DDoS was used to cheat and steal on the poker sites. The technique of the cheating is to pick a target and build a big pot and, of course, bluff while you are hitting the target’s computer with DDoS, then target suddenly gets disconnected from server for long enough to time out.

I found the hacker that is disconnecting the server. He builds big pots and once he minraises he crashes the server and scoops the pot. His username is L4ss3m4jj4n. He did it to me a few times and took quite a bit from me at PLO. I than followed him and watched him to do it to others. I emailed support so let's see what happens.2+2 user;

The Carbon Poker site itself was likely a victim of DDoS attack because the attack disrupted service for many people playing at the time. It seems that the other sites are hit by the attacks too because a lot of players, mostly from the US facing sites, are sending reports about similar experiences.

On Sunday Full Tilt was down for a while as well and all signs are pointing that the poker sites are the prime targets. It’s still unknown who is responsible for the attacks and how many people are involved but poker world is clearly in a phase where it is important to increase security measures to make sure that players feel safe to play.
