Doyle Brunson Leaves A Final Message on Twitter
11 months ago22 May
The legendary Doyle Brunson may have left us this week but he had one last message for his poker Twitter fans, courtesy of his son Todd, with a typical fun âTexas Dollyâ prod at Mike Matusow...
Doyle, nicknamed the Godfather of poker and perhaps the single most important figure in poker history, passed away aged 89 on May 15th, the poker world mourning news of his departure.
The unexpected tweets that appeared four days later read:
âJust cashed in my chips but before I walk out that door one last time, I just wanted to tell you all how much I loved this poker world. I didnât want to go yet, was actually planning to play some events this summerâŚ. But when I saw the mark up @MikeMatusow was charging for the 10k O/8 event⌠my heart just gave out! Be kind to one another. Iâll save you all a seat in Dollyâs game in Heaven.â
Bearing all the hallmarks of his son Toddâs sense of humour, the âMike the Mouthâ tag unfortunately pointed to an old, suspended account, but word got back to Matusow quickly enough...
When the news initially broke of Doyleâs death, Matusow was among the thousands who expressed their shock and sadness, tweeting:
âWow I canât even make words on how much we will miss you @TexDolly! When I started my poker career Iâll never forget some advice you gave me! God was gracious to have had you enter lives of so many in the poker world! #ripdoyle.â
Matusow then ran a tribute podcast, revealing that although health issues meant he hadnât been so close to the elder statesman in recent years, he was still close to his son, Todd.
There is certain to be a tribute to Doyle Brunson at this yearâs World Series of Poker, âTexas Dollyâ winning 10 career gold bracelets including back-to-back Main Event titles in 1976 and 1977.
