Rap superstar Drake’s fortunes changed when he placed a $1 million wager on Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Israel Adesanya to win against Jared Cannonier.

Adesanya, who is of Nigerian descent, defeated Jared Cannonier to retain the middleweight UFC title in a primarily one-sided contest.

Breaking the curse

After winning on the high-stakes wager that broke his gambling jinx, Drake was a delighted fan. This win comes after a string of terrible losses for Drake in the gambling world.

The Canadian superstar has an estimated net worth of more than $250 million, so losing a seven-figure wager is likely to be more of a nuisance than a disaster for the 35-year-old.

Drake defied the trend of betting on underdogs by increasing his stake on hot favorite Adesanya after losing $275,000 on Jorge Masvidal and $550,000 on Justin Gaethje.

In a previous video chat, he informed Adesanya of his wager, stating the figure was a 'light' price.

However, it was evident that Adesanya was comfortable when he entered the octagon since he completely outclassed his opponent from the beginning to the end of the bout, landing 116 significant strikes on his path to victory.

In the footage shared on social media between the two A-list celebs, Drake states:

"You know, I put a million lights up. My brother had to be given a light mill by me. Return on investment is guaranteed. I wanted to wish you the best of luck."

He has a reputation for having a preference for the NFL, and he once bet $1.25 million on the Super Bowl.

Furthermore, he made a $200,000 bet earlier in the year on the Golden State Warriors to make it to the NBA Finals, winning him a cool $1 million.

Although the win may have temporarily stopped Drake's UFC betting curse, it's expected that the rapper won't stop raising the stakes for the next major sporting event.
