Following the presentation of the British and American Poker Awards, the European Poker Awards ceremony, sponsored by the Global Poker Index, will take place at the end of March. Portomaso Marina Hilton Hotel in Malta will play host for the ceremony that will be awarding players for the 14th time.

Award winners are determined by panels of judges and experts, for the most part. The Player of the Year Award is determined solely on the GPI Player of the Year rankings for European players. Each panel member provides a maximum of two names for every category and the top four from each category move on to the final selection round where a winner is determined.

2015 Nominations

The awards will be handed out in fourteen different categories, including the ‘Rising Star of the Year,' ‘Media Person of the Year,' and ‘Charitable Initiative of the Year.’ The names of the finalists in most of the categories have now been announced and some of those names will be taking home awards on March 25th.

In the GPI Player of the Year and Female PoY categories, the results are clear and the awards will go to Ole Schemion and Liv Boeree, respectively.

George Danzer, Dominik Panka, Oliver Price and Jack Salter will compete in the Breakout Player of the Year category.

Victoria Coren-Mitchell is once again in the competition for Tournament Performance of the Year, together with Martin Jacobson, Davidi Kitai and Dominik Panka.

Nominees for two categories, ‘Poker’s Best Ambassador’ and ‘Lifetime Achievement,’ have not been revealed and the winners will be determined by a public vote and EPA jury, respectively.

European Poker Conference

Simultaneously with the awards ceremony, a poker conference will take place in Malta. The conference serves as a gathering for industry members to come together and share their thoughts and insights.

Some of the points of the discussion will focus on the current climate of live poker in Europe, the state of online poker, as well as player perspectives on these matters.

The conference will precede the awards ceremony, which will take place during the evening.
