Last year Phil Ivey claimed the title in the AU$5000 8–Game Mix, capturing his 9th gold bracelet in the process. This year, he wasn’t able to return and defend the claim because of the obligations in London.

This year’s tournament attracted 45 runners for the Day 1 and the late registration extended to the Day 2. Richard Ashby was a leader of 26 survivors after Day 1, with a stack of 79,850. The total field was locked out at 48, creating a prize pool of AU$225,600.

Plenty of big names made it through the Day 1 including Mike Watson (38,875), Brian Rast (32,350), Daniel Negreanu (25,000), Joe Hachem (24,375), Dan Heimillier (15,350), Jonathan Duhamel (14,550) and George Danzer (9, 525).

Notables who fell on Day 1 included the likes of Vanessa Rousso, Dylan Hortin, Roland Israelashvilli, Jasckson Zheng and Antonio Esfandiari.

The final table of the event has been reached with a Canadian, Scott Clements at the seat 4, leading the way with a stack of 179,200.

Except for Clements, these were the names of the five finalists who outlasted the competition:

Seat 1: George Danzer from Germany (26,800)

Seat 2: Sam Khouiss from Australia (169,500)

Seat 3: Jonathan Duhamel from Canada (175,200)

Seat 5: Ismael Bojang from Germany (79,100)

Seat 6: Tino Lechich from Australia (90,500)

The final table began slowly and the short stack George Danzer soon claimed the chip lead. Danzer, who won his 3rd gold bracelet, beating his opponent Scott Clements in the heads up, was the short stack from the beginning of this tournament, but this time the Lady Luck was at his side.

Both Danzer and Clements were gunning for the third bracelet and in the end it was George Danzer who took home the gold, the top prize, the title of the WSOP champion and regained the lead in the WSOP Player of the Year race. He has arrived to Australia to compete for the Player of the Year and to take the points, and this bracelet represents an important boost.

This is the list of final table players and their bounties:

1st place George Danzer – $84,600

2nd place Scott Clements – $52,340

3rd place Jonathan Duhamel – $34,291

4th place Ismael Bojang - $23,688

5h place Tino Lechich -$17,371

6th place Sam Khouiss – $13,310
