When a warm-up event has almost €¼million up top you know you’re in the midst of a huge poker festival and it was Austrian globe-trotting pro Gerald Karlic who lifted the title as the €12.5million guaranteed partypoker MILLIONS Live debuted its Germany festival just across the border at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov.

A total of 406 players had invested €2700 each in the opening 3-day event with some big – even huge – names of the poker world returning for the final day’s play, Sweden’s Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom and German high-roller Manig Loeser among them.

Karlic might not be the best-known name in poker, but he has amassed over $1.5million now in tournament play, ten days ago fighting it out with the Chinese challengers in Macau’s APPT Poker Cup, a $72,000 4th spot in the High Roller paying for his trip, and then some, to the Aussie Millions the previous month.

Both Blom and $6million man Loeser would bust out en route to the final table, a dominated ace and then queens losing to jacks respectively, although Blom would head directly into the $5million guaranteed Main Event and make is mark almost immediately…

Angelou Konstas would join them as the official final table bubble-boy, leaving the rest assured of at least a $25k payday and it was Karlic who would use his big stack to bully the table, taking out Daniel Smiljkovic with jacks against big slick ‘the pivotal pot’ of the tournament according to the excellent live updates.

When he also eliminated Czech number 5 in the all-time moneywinners list, Michal Mrakes, in 3rd spot, it only left Marek Ohnisko between Karlic and the title…

…Karlic sealing victory ‘when he called Ohnisko's 20 big blind reshove with A♥ K♦ against A♣ 7♥ and the board ran out A♦ 8♦ 2♦ 6♠ 7♦. The river made Karlic a flush and gave him the title, the trophy and €230,000. Ohnisko had to settle for second and the €140,000 that came with it’ as partypoker reported.
