A high-stakes poker player has been arrested in Ibiza on drug smuggling charges. The 33-year-old male was detained after arriving on a private flight and is said to hold dual Italian-Kuwaiti citizenship.

Busted!

The news was first broken on Spanish newspaper Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera telling how local authorities found a collection of almost every common narcotic in the suspect’s suitcase.

Around 30 passengers flying from Las Vegas landed in the private jet at 3am on Friday 16. The Civil Guard, using modern scanning equipment, detected organic substances and small foreign containers inside the suitcase in question.

Upon opening it up they discovered the haul along with a considerable amount of cash in various currencies—€6,220, $1,785, £485, 100 Kuwaiti dinars, and 101,200 Thai baht.

The drugs haul was quite something:

  • 315g cocaine
  • 705g hashish
  • 80g crystal methamphetamine
  • LSD
  • Ecstasy
  • Magic Mushrooms
  • Speed
  • Cannabis

That’s some party he was going to!

No Official ID

Although the Spanish authorities have not yet officially identified the suspect, the poker forums were quick to act. Spanish language forum Poker Red tweeted that they knew the man was Salman Behbehani.

This is shocking news as Behbehani shouldn’t be short of money with $3.3 million in live tournament winnings and several six-figure cashes to his name, including $560,000 for third place in the 2016 WCOOP $102,000 Super High Roller.

We await confirmation that this off-the-book identification is correct or not.
