Jake Cody’s magnificent roulette wheel gamble last month, betting his entire £42k (£59k) partypoker High Roller winnings on Black and doubling his winnings in one fell swoop, was done because he thought “it would be a good story” the English pro has said.

"I mainly did it for the story to be honest," Cody explained this week to PokerNews, adding: "It sounds kind of silly but I base a lot of my life decisions based on how good of a story it would be. I thought it would be a good story."

Claiming that he is not a “wild gambler”, fans of the young poker pro and vlogger could have been mistaken for not quite believing him, onlookers chanting "Black! Black! Black!" as the wheel spun, Cody himself describing it as “insane” when his winning bet came up.

The daring wager wasn’t a well-thought out plan says Cody, an off-the-cuff comment from a friend raising a laugh and ‘cool idea’ response from the 29-year old – but with others mentioning it as though he’d promised to do it, the roulette-gamble idea snowballed.

When he chopped the last four in the £2200 buy-in High Roller at partypoker’s UK Poker Championships in Nottingham’s ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ casino, he’d already gone beyond the point of no return.

"I said, 'OK, I guess I'm not backing down now,' and off they headed with his £42,670 and a crowd of well-wishing onlookers to ‘double-or-nothing land’ – casino boss Rob Yong playing the part of good host and spinning the wheel, although he may well have had a sinking feeling when the ball came to rest. It just landed on black perfectly, too. It just stopped dead, it looked a little bit rigged actually," Cody told PokerNews this week.

He admits he has no plans to ever do it again though, stating:

"It was kind of a one-off. People that know me, know I play a bit of table games – blackjack, a bit of craps – but I'm not some wild gambler. I probably won't do it again, to be honest."
