Jessica Chastain To Star In Molly’s Game Adaptation2 years ago
Over a month ago, one interesting piece of news broke out about a new TV Poker Drama based on Molly Bloom’s memoires>. One of the best Hollywood screenwriters, Aaron Sorkin sat down at the table and decided to buy-in and get himself into Molly’s Game with a full stack. Now, according to The Wrap, Sorkin wants to lure actress Jessica Chastain to join the (in)famous game but not as a player; the director actually wants her to play the host.
Jessica Chastain As Molly Bloom?
If Jessica accepts the offer, she will play the role of Molly Bloom, the ex-skier with Olympic expectations who became the Princess of Underground Poker in the US, from Los Angeles to New York. For years, she had been organizing private poker games using her home like some sort of instacasino for famous celebrities.
Among the players she touted Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire as well as Russian and Italian mobsters and loan sharks. Things went smoothly enough until the FBI found out and seized her in New York. Molly was charged for organizing illegal gambling activities and initially pleaded not guilty. However, she changed her plea and as a consequence, she was fined $125,000 and sentenced to a one year’s probation in May 2014.
The ex-skier decided to move on and write her memoirs - Molly's Game, From Hollywood’s Elite To Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure In The World Of Underground Poker.
The rights to adapt the book into an overnight screen success were quickly bought by president of the Producers Guild of America Mark Gordon who immediately called out Sorkin. Sorkin accepted his new position of movie director and now he’s looking to complete the cast with famous actors (and why not, poker pros) including Academy Award nominated star, Jessica Chastain.
About Jessica Chastain
Jessica is already a hot shot in the movie industry having taken Hollywood by storm with her amazing acting performances in movies like Interstellar, The Martian, Zero Dark Thirty, Mama, The Help, A Most Violent Year and Crimson Peak.
So far, she has won a Golden Globe for Best Actress and a Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Actress in 2012 as well as being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
Unfortunately, her decision to call Sorkin’s bet won’t be easy at all as she already has a very busy schedule. Just several days ago, Jessica launched her own all-female production company - Freckle Films - in an attempt to fight against inequality within the American movie industry.
She will definitely have a hard time accepting the role, but we at PokerTube hope she will star in the Molly’s Game and make the movie an instant success. The poker industry definitely needs a breath of fresh air from some recent upsets, and a new Rounders’ would certainly help maintain the dream of becoming a poker professional.
