Van Fleet Wins 888 Super XL High Roller
26 Jan

It was a day of big buy-ins and big cashes at the 888 Super XL series, with 203 players vying for High Roller plaudits in the $2100 buy-in event , Jonathan "chut_up" Van Fleet eventually walking off with the $87,290 top prize after a gruelling day’s play.

The Texan is a well-known online crusher, $7million plus in winnings on the virtual felt as well as some $270K pocket change from his live appearances, and he had to overcome many of the world’s best online tournament pros to scoop the big one.

Ole Schemion didn’t get far, but Fredrik Jensen had a deep run in the big boys event, number 28 out of 64 in the 12-day long XL festival, eventually falling in 6th but securing $20,000 for his troubles.

With $406,000 in total at stake, Van Fleet – who also goes by the moniker ‘Apestyles’ online – had his sights set on top spot, claiming last year that “pretty much everything but first place is unsatisfying in some way”.

It wouldn’t be easy though, with Fabrizio "DrMiKee" Gonzalez meeting the American (turned-Canadian after Black Friday) heads-up and instantly leveling the chip counts. Van Fleet wasn’t to be denied, however, his king high good enough in the final hand of the tournament to take down the title and the cash, with Gonzalez having to settle for a not inconsiderable $62,930.

Not that the Uruguayan star will be complaining at all, having now played 13 tournaments in the series so far, with four finishes in the money, three final tables (placing 1st, 2nd and 4th) and pocketing over $100K in winnings!

The final table results and cashes were as follows:

1 Jonathan ‘chut_up’ Van Fleet
USA $87,290
2 Fabrizio ‘DrMiKee’ Gonzalez
3 Bernardo ‘bsdias’ Dias
Brazil $47,705
4 ‘glezna23’

7 ‘JBA888’

8 Niklas ‘tutten7’ Astedt
Sweden $12,180
9 ‘LAP1215’
UK $8,120
